Today we discussed the technical aspects of film production, most importantly the maintenance of the cameras.
Issues
The most important and crucial guideline for camera maintenance is keeping the camera dry. Water can interfere and destroy the electronics inside a camera. Harsh conditions such as rain or snow should be avoided and extra care should be taken around water. Additionally, waterproof camera packs should be available at all times in case of changes in weather or if dangers are present on filming locations.
Moreover, it is important that the camera does not get too hot. The heat of the sun can be potentially dangerous for a digital camera.
It is also important to make sure the cameras are regularly charged or are turned off when not in use. It is important because on location shoots there is not source of power, meaning if the camera was not charged then filming would have to be halted, potentially ruining continuity and planning.
Additionally, it is crucial to remember to hold the camera safely and securely. Dropping a camera can be very dangerous maintenance wise. Moreover it is important to hold onto the camera to ensure it doesn’t get lost.
Lastly, it important to take care of the lens, cleaning the lens and making sure the lens cap is on during times of no filming help to protect the lens from serious damage.
